Lot List For Projections Calculator

This list is similar to the Lot Center list, but made for viewing in the Projections Calculator window for manually selecting lots to gather historical data on.

Field Display Speed Description
Lot Name Normal The name of the lot. This name is used in lists throughout Fusion when you choose the lot or view the lot. It must be unique within a location. We recommend not trying to put too much information into a lot name. For example, some people try to encode the sex, owner, cattle type, etc. into the lot name. We recommend using the other fields provided for this and keep the lot name simple. However, you can enter anything you like.
Location Normal This is the location the lot belongs to. Lots can only belong to one location.
Status Normal A lot only has to states: Open and Closed. A lot is open when it is first created and stays that way until the last animal leaves the feedlot. Once the headcount in a lot goes to zero, Fusion will automatically close the lot. (You can still change pricing and other information after it is closed and Fusion will regenerate billing and closeout information.)
Is Fully Closed Normal This field has no bearing on the internal business logic in Fusion, but it can be used to mark a lot as completely closed after all the associated billing and reporting is complete.
Sex Normal The sex of the lot. Male, Female, and Mixed are the possibilities. Note that individual animals in a lot can also have a sex assigned to them (Male, Female, Unknown) which can default to this field if it is set up before the animals are inducted.
Breed Normal The breed of the lot from the list of possbile breeds you have defined. Note that individual animals in a lot can also have a breed assigned to them which may be different that this field. The animal breed field can be set to default to this field if it is set up before the animals are inducted.
Color Normal The color of the lot from the list of possbile colors you have defined. Note that individual animals in a lot can also have a color assigned to them which may be different that this field. The animal color field can be set to default to this field if it is set up before the animals are inducted.
Cattle Type Normal The cattle type of the lot from the list of possbile cattle types you have defined. Note that individual animals in a lot can also have a cattle type assigned to them which may be different that this field. The animal cattle type field can be set to default to this field if it is set up before the animals are inducted.
Count Normal The number of animals currently in the lot. In other words, the count of animals in the lot that haven't died, been sent to slaughter, or left the feedlot in some other way. When this count gets to zero, the lot will automatically be closed. This count is only affected by in cohorts and out cohorts. Note that it is quite possible for this number to not match the number of animal records associated with the lot which can be a result of not linking animals all the time, duplicate animals during a chuteside job, animals losing their tag and coming through as a "new" animal in a chuteside job, etc. The point is that this field should have the correct number of animals and is used for billing and closeout information.
Weight (lb) Normal This is the lot's average weight right now. It is a weighted average of all the animals left in the lot no matter what pen they are in. When the lot is closed, this field will become zero.
Weight Class (lb) Normal The lot's weight class. This is based on the weight classes you set up in the Preferences window when Fusion was first set up and the lot's average weight.
Weight Class Value per Unit Very Slow This is a calculated field that shows the market value on a per unit (lb or kg) basis. It reflects the current weight class pricing you have set up in the attributes part of Fusion.
Lot Days Normal The number of days cattle have been in the lot based on the average date in and out. The formula is normally the average date out (or today if the lot is still open) - the average date in. However if no in cohort information is available because the entire lot is pre-Fusion, the formula will be the last date out - the first date in.
Pens Currently In Very Slow This field is for display and reporting only. It will show a list of the pens the lot is currently in.
Custom Column Normal A lot of information stored about a lot can't be shown in a list like this one. Much of this information is shown in the detail area of the Lot Center window. Sometimes you want to be able to quickly compare a certain value in the detail area across lots. There is a function in the Lot Center window where you can choose one piece of detail information and Fusion will use this field to show it for all lots. Thus, this field will reflect whatever was last chosen using that function.
Ownership Percentage Normal This field is only useful when this list is viewed in the Lot Center window and the Current Owner field is being used. In that case, Fuson will calculate the ownership percentage that owner currently has in the lot. Otherwise it will be zero.
Ownership Interest Rate Normal This field is only useful when this list is viewed in the Lot Center window and the Current Owner field is being used. In that case, Fuson will calculate the owner's current interest rate used with the lot. Otherwise it will be zero.
Ownership Equity Normal This field is only useful when this list is viewed in the Lot Center window and the Current Owner field is being used. In that case, Fuson will calculate the owner's equity in the lot. Otherwise it will be zero.
Current Owner Normal This field is for searching only. You can use it in an advanced find to get a list of all lots where this person is a current owner of the lot.
First Date In Normal The earliest date this lot had cattle in the feedlot. This is normally based on the first in cohort, but if pre-Fusion information is entered it may be based on the date given there. Fusion changes this date as needed. It will be blank if no cattle have entered the lot yet.
Last Date Out Normal This is the last date that cattle were in the lot. It can be considered the date the lot was closed. If pre-Fusion information is used and a Last Date Out was specified there, this field will use that date.
Avg Date In Normal As cattle come into the lot with different in cohorts, this date will change. It is the average date the cattle came in, weighted by count. In other words, if only a few cattle came in at the beginning of the week and a lot of cattle came in at the end of the week, the average date would be closer to the end of the week. Note that this field is calculated only with in cohorts, so pre-Fusion information is not taken into account. In fact, if no cattle come into a lot after transitioning to Fusion, this field will be blank for that lot.
Avg Date Out Normal As cattle leave the lot with different out cohorts, this date will change. It is the average date the cattle came leave, weighted by count. In other words, if only a few cattle leave at the beginning of the week and a lot of cattle leave at the end of the week, the average date would be closer to the end of the week. The field will be blank until the first out cohort is created for the lot. It will also be blank if a lot was closed out pre-Fusion.
Estimated Slaughter Date Normal When you set a lot up you can specify a target slaughter date and weight. With that information Fusion recalculated this field—the estimated slaughter date—each night. In general it should be come more accurate as the lot get closer to slaughter. This is how the calculation works:

If you leave both the target date and weight blank, this field will be blank.

If you enter a target date but leave the target weight field blank, this field will be the same as the target date. This allows you to override any logic in Fusion if you have your own way of setting a target date.

If you enter a target weight, but not a target date, Fusion will estimate how quickly the cattle are growing based on past growth and set this field to that estimate.

If you enter both a target weight and date, Fusion will estimate the date based on growth, but not allow the date to go beyond the target date you have set. In other words, you can have Fusion determine the date, but it can be capped so you sell the cattle by a certain date regardless of weight.

Note that this field can be used as part of the formula to determine individual animal slaughter dates during a chuteside job if desired. For example, you might set up Fusion to calculate this date to be a good average for the lot and then have individual animals adjust to a date before or after this date based on their weight spread from the lot average. This can be done automatically during a chuteside job, including virtual jobs.
Drug Withdrawal Normal This field shows the current withdrawal date for the entire lot based on drugs given. It is re-calculated each night (or when the lot in manually regenerated) by looking at all animals associated with the lot that are still current and finding the one with the most future drug withdrawal date. That date then becomes the lot's withdrawal date. If that date is in the past, this field will be blank.
Feed Withdrawal Normal This field shows the current withdrawal date for the entire lot based on feed given. Note that feed withdrawals are only accurate if you always properly link animals. If you don't, this field will be meaningless and should not be used. It is re-calculated each night (or when the lot in manually regenerated) by looking at all animals associated with the lot that are still current and finding the one with the most future feed withdrawal date. That date then becomes the lot's withdrawal date. If that date is in the past, this field will be blank.
Overall Withdrawal Normal This field is a combination of the drug and feed withdrawals. If you are always linking animals so that feed withdrawals are accurate, you can just use this field for an overall withdrawal date. If not, just use the drug withdrawal field as this one will be meaningless.
Lot Was Open On Date Not Tested This field is for searching purposes only. You can use it in the advanced find to reduce the list to lots that were open on the specified date.
Growth Potential Score Normal This field shows how you have scored the lot for growth potential (Large for large framed animals, Medium for medium framed animals, Small for small framed animals). This is initially used in helping determine a good default Mature Weight setting which is used in the NRC calculations for determining growth. Once the mature weight is set, this field is only for informational purposes.
Gain Model Normal When Fusion calculates weight gain for existing animals each night, it can use a different model for each lot. This field shows which model is being used. The possibilities are:

1996 NRC: 1996 NRC weight gain formulas are used.

Specified Gain: a constant weight gain is used—see the Weight Gain Factor field

Specified Conversion: the value in the Feed Conversion Factor field will be used to increase weight based on the feed conversion—for example, a factor of 7.0 means that an animal that eats 21 lbs of dry matter in a day will gain 3 lbs.
NRC Mature Weight Normal The mature weight is used in the NRC equations when used for calculating estimated weight gain each night. The better this estimate is of the weight you are hoping to slaughter the animals at, the more accurate the gain will be each day—especially toward the end of the feeding period. You can enter a specific mature weight, but the following are the defaults Fusion uses based on the growth potential score until you override it:

Small male = 500 kg/1100 lb
Small female = 430 kg/950 lb
Small mixed = 465 kg/1025 lb
Medium male = 610 kg/1350 lb
Medium female = 540 kg/1200 lb
Medium mixed = 575 kg/1275 lb
Large male = 725 kg/1600 lb
Large female = 655 kg/1450 lbs
Large mixed = 690 kg/1525 lb.
Weight Gain Factor Normal This is the value used if the gain model is Specified Gain. This will be the constant number of pounds or kilograms that are added to the weight of this lot each night.
Feed Conversion Factor Normal This is the value used if the gain model is Specified Conversion. It will be the conversion rate used to determine the weight gain for the lot based on the dry matter intake from the previous day. For example, a factor of 7.0 means that an animal that eats 21 lbs of dry matter in a day will gain 3 lbs.
Buyer Normal You can assign a buyer to the lot. If this is set up before animals are inducted with a chuteside job, the job can be set up so the animal's source defaults to this buyer.
Buyer Phone Number Normal The buyer's phone number.
Originating Herd Very Slow The place where the animals where born.
Originating Herd Phone Very Slow The phone number for the originating herd contact.
Opened Pre-Fusion Normal Will be "Yes" if this lot existed before you started using Fusion and has pre-Fusion information.
Closed Pre-Fusion Normal Will be "Yes" if the lot existed and was closed before you started using Fusion. Fusion allows historical lots to be entered if desired for comparison purposes and can compute a simple closeout based on a small amount of information entered in the pre-Fusion area of a lot.
Target Slaughter Weight (lb) Normal See the explanation for the Estimated Slaughter Date field.
Target Slaughter Date Normal See the explanation for the Estimated Slaughter Date field.
Override Weight Class Value? Normal Normally the Weight Class fields are calculated using the current weight class attribute pricing set up in the attributes area of Fusion. However, you can override the value used for a lot if you like. If you have done so, this field will be "Yes". That means you need to update the value as it changes over time.
Overriden Weight Class Value Normal If you are overriding the weight class value, this will be the dollars per lb (or kg) you want to assign this lot and this value will be used in calculating the weight class value fields.
Category 1 Normal If you want to record information about a lot that doesn't fit into any existing fields, Fusion provides five custom fields to be used any way you like. This is the first of these. You can customize the labels of these fields in the Preferences window. If you feel you are storing information that other people might also want to store, please let us know so we can consider adding a dedicated field it in a future version of Fusion.
Category 2 Normal The second custom field.
Category 3 Normal The third custom field.
Category 4 Normal The fourth custom field.
Category 5 Normal The fifth custom field.
Note Normal You can enter any notes you like for the lot here.
Total Feed Normal The total dollars for feed consumed by the lot.

This is how Fusion calculates the feed: For each day, it looks at each pen the lot was in. For each pen, it looks at each feed delivery and decides how much of the feed delivery applies to the lot based on relative head count within the pen (if there is more than one lot in the pen). It also figures out what percentage of the load the feed delivery was. It then looks at the actual ingredient amounts that went into the load and figures out the price for each one. It then does the math to figure out the price of each ingredient to apply to the lot. This continues until all pens are looked at for the lot for the day. At the end of the day, each ingredient amount is rounded to the nearest cent.
Total Drugs Normal The total dollars for drugs given to the lot.

Note that when Fusion calculates this amount, rounding to the nearest cent occurs for each drug on the total quantity for the entire day.
Total Inputs Normal The total dollars for inputs given to the lot.

Note that when Fusion calculates this amount, rounding to the nearest cent occurs for each input on the total quantity for the entire day.
Total Yardage Normal The total yardage dollars for the lot.

Rounding occurs once for each day.
Total Other Normal The total of any "Other Items" billed to the lot.
Subtotal Normal The total feed, drugs, inputs, yardage, and other items associated with this lot.
Total Tax Normal The amount of tax applied to the subtotal. This is based on the formula entered in the Preferences window.
Grand Total Normal The subtotal plus the taxes.
Feed per lb Normal The next fields are calculated by taking the total feed (or drugs, etc.) and dividing by the total weight gained (dead weight out). If the lot is still open, Fusion will "pretend" that the remaining animals were slaughtered today at their current estimated weight when calculating this information.

Inputs per lb Normal See above.
Yardage per lb Normal See above.
Other per lb Normal See above.
Subtotal per lb Normal See above.
Tax per lb Normal See above.
Total per lb Normal See above.
Feed per animal Normal The next fields are calculated by taking the total feed (or drugs, etc.) and dividing by the in count. The in count will come from the total in count of the in cohorts plus any animals in the pre-Fusion information if it exists unless the lot in value have been overriden in which case the in count will come from the overriden values.

If the lot is still open, Fusion will "pretend" that the remaining animals were slaughtered today at their current estimated weight when calculating this information.

Total Purchases Normal The total dollars used to purchase the animals when they entered the feedlot. This is normally the sum of the in dollars of all the in cohorts, but if the in values have been overriden at the lot level, it will be from the overriden value.

If this is a pre-Fusion lot, this field include the pre-Fusion information.
Total Cost Normal The total amount of dollars applied to the lot while they have been in the feedlot. The value comes from the Subtotal field so it does not include tax.
Total Sales Normal The total dollars received for sale of the animals after they left the feedlot. This is normally the sum of the out dollars of all the non-death out cohorts, but if the out values have been overriden at the lot level, it will be from the overriden value.

If this is a pre-Fusion lot, this field include the pre-Fusion information.

If the lot has not yet closed, Fusion "pretends" to sell the remaining cattle at their current estimated weight and at the "remaining cattle price" to include those animals in this figure. Note that the "remaining cattle price" can be changed at will in the Lot Center window to better reflect current pricing.
Total Interest Normal When calculating interest for a lot, Fusion calculates the interest for each owner and then sums these up for this field. The interest for each owner is based on the interest rate currently assigned to them, their ownership percentage of the lot, and the percentage of interest to apply to each billing type (feed, drugs, etc.) as set up in the Preferences window.

Head Days Normal The sum of the number of animals that existed each day for the life of the lot. So it includes deads for the time they were alive. To be exact, the count for each day is the number of animals in the lot at the end of the day. This count is based on in cohorts and out cohorts, not individual animal records. It will include any head days specified in pre-Fusion information if the lot started before transitioning to Fusion. Note that the head days are still based on in and out cohorts even if you have overriden the in and out information at the lot level.
Total Dry Matter Consumed (t) Normal The total amount of dry matter consumed by the lot, converted to billing units (usually tonnes or tons).
Avg Pen Density (sq ft/animal) Normal This is the average pen density for animals in the lot over the life of the lot.
