Scale House Window

The Scale House window is meant to be used in a scale house, ideally with the scale head connected to Fusion through the Physical Computer Management window. With it you can create scale house loads and print scale tickets. These scale house loads can then be converted into scale tickets, inventory offsets, in cohorts, and out cohorts in the office.

The window will behave somewhat differently depending on how your preferences and group permissions are set up, so make sure to check those before using this window. For example, depending on your settings anyone can weigh in or out or you can restrict weighing in and out to certain members of your staff by having them authenticate each time.

This window is designed (for security reasons) to be the only window open in Fusion Client while it is running. When it opens, all other windows will be hidden. The menu bar will also be hidden. We recommend closing other windows anyway before opening this one. Only a Fusion user with the correct permissions will be able to close this window, after which the menu and any hidden windows will become visible again.

The typical workflow is as follows: a truck will first weigh in. The cargo and whether they are loading or unloading is selected. Then the weight is captured and other information is entered if known. Later that same truck will be weighed out where a weight is captured and any new information is entered. The scale house load is then saved and they can optionally print a scale ticket. At some point in the future, the office staff will convert these loads into other items in Fusion such as scale tickets and cohorts.

Staff in the scale house can also use this window to manually edit and delete loads as long as they were made today and haven't been processed yet. Let's look at each page in this window.

Home Page

This is the main page where you can start each workflow. The main buttons are used to weigh in and out. Use the Weigh In button to start a new load, whether they are loading or unloading cargo. Use the Weigh Out button to weigh the truck the second time and print the scale ticket.

If you need to manually edit one of today's loads, use the Today's Load List button. And if you need to close the window, use the Exit Fusion Scale House button.

Authentication Page

Depending on your settings, users will need to authenticate at various times as a safety precaution. When that happens they'll temporarily land on this page where they must enter their username and password. This allows the "current" user in this window to be different than the user who is currently logged into Fusion Client on this computer and restricts functionality accordingly.

The last authenticated user is remembered in the window and the username will default to that user, so if the same user is authenticating often they'll only need to enter their password each time.

Cargo Page

This page is shown when you start weighing in a truck. Here you choose your cargo (either cattle or a commodity which comes from your list of ingredients) and whether the truck is unloading or loading the cargo. The expected loading or unloading location defaults to this computer's location, but it can be changed if you've set your preferences to allow this. You would only do that if you sometimes weigh trucks at one location and then have them load or unload at a different location.

Weight Pages

The pages for capturing the first and second weight looks almost identical, so we'll describe them both together. At the top are two weight related fields. On the left is the Scale weight. If you have a scale set up in the Physical Computer Management window the scale head weight will be displayed in this field. It updates several times each second. When it has settled, tap the green arrow button to the right to "capture" the weight which will copy the scale weight into the Captured Weight field. If you make a mistake, just wait until the scale weight is correct and tap the capture button again.

If the scale head has become disconnected, a button will appear which you can use to attempt a reconnection and the scale field will be "Disconnected". If you don't have a scale configured in Physical Computer Management then the scale field will be "Not Setup" and the capture button will not work. In that case you'll need to manually enter a weight.

The keyboard button to the right of the Captured Weight field can be used to manually enter the weight if the authenticated user has the correct permissions. This can be useful to correct a captured weight and it is necessary if no scale has been setup.

When a weight is captured, the information area on the right is updated as much as possible to remind what load is being taken care of.

The units for the weights will depend on the cargo type and how you originally set Fusion up. For example, if the cargo type is a commodity and you originally set Fusion up to expect commodities to be weighed in kilograms, then the values are expected to be in kilograms during this weight capture. Don't change the units on the scale head, though, as Fusion will convert automatically as needed.

The fields in the bottom half of the screen are attributes that may optionally be recorded and will be used where it makes sense when the scale house load is converted into other things such as scale tickets and cohorts in the office. Only the Scale Ticket and Truck Identification fields must be used. All the other fields may be filled in when the first weight is taken, when the second weight is taken, or not at all.

  • Scale Ticket. The scale ticket number is automatically constructed based on your preferences. With the correct permissions you can edit it if desired. Note that once a scale ticket number has been created, even if you don't save it or if you change it, it will not be used again.
  • Truck Identification. When a truck is weighing in, enter an identification number here. It will be used later when the truck weighs out to identify which load is weighing out. It isn't useful after the second weight has been taken. You can use anything you like. Examples include the truck license plate or the trucker's name. You could even make a stack of animal tags with numbers on them and give the trucker a tag when they weigh in and take it back when they weigh out, using the tag number here to identify the truck while it is in the yard.
  • Seller/Purchaser. If the seller (or purchaser if that's the way the load is going) is known, it can be entered here. It must already exist in your list of contacts. If it doesn't, consider adding the name in the note field so the office staff can create the contact record later.
  • Trucking Company. The trucking company can be added here. It also must exist in your list of contacts.
  • Directive Number. You may have an additional number of some kind for identifying this load in another system and can use this field to record it.
  • Moisture Content. If the cargo is a commodity, you can enter the moisture content here.
  • Bushel Weight. If the cargo is a commodity, you can enter the bushel weight here.
  • Head Count. If the cargo is cattle, you can enter the head count here.
  • Manifest Number. If the cargo is cattle, you can enter the manifest number here.
  • Note. Feel free to enter any notes here, including to capture information beyond the above fields or information the office staff will need to process this scale house load.

Pending Load List

After clicking the Weigh In button on the Home page, you will be taken to this page where you'll see a list of loads that have been weighed in but not yet weighed out. Only loads that were weighed in at the computer's location will be listed. Using the truck identification number, find the load that needs to be weighed out and select it. Then click the Next button to capture the final weight.

Print Ticket Page

When saving a load after weighing it out, this page will appear. If you want to print a scale ticket, click the Print Ticket button. Fusion will print how many ever copies you've specified above. After printing, click the Done button to return to the Home page.

Fusion expects a regular printer with 8.5"x11" (or close to that) paper to print on.

Today's Load List

If a mistake has been made or you need to re-print a ticket from today, click the Today's Load List button on the Home page to get here (the correct user permissions are required to access this list). Loads that meet the following criteria will be listed here:

  • The load was weighed at the computer's location.
  • The load first started weighing in today.
  • The load hasn't yet been processed by the office staff.

You can just view the list and then click the Done button when you are done to return to the Home page. You can also select a load and then click one of the following buttons:

  • Delete Load. Deletes the selected load. This cannot be undone.
  • Edit Load. Allows the selected load to be edited. The interface at the bottom of the screen will change so that you can move between the Cargo page and the two Weight pages, making any changes you wish. Note that you won't be able to edit the second weight if the truck hasn't been weighed out yet, so the normal process for weighing in and out must be followed. When you are finished editing the load, click the Save button.
  • Print Ticket. If the selected scale house load has both weights captured, you can use this button to print the scale ticket. This is useful if it wasn't printed correctly when it was weighed out and you want to try again.
All changes that are made to a scale house load are recorded in an audit trail and can be viewed using the Scale House Load list window.
