This guide explains how to create a new water meter and set it up for use.

If you temper any of your ingredients and want to account for the tempered water separately, you'll need to set up a water meter in Fusion. This video will walk you through the process step by step. Keep in mind, you'll need a separate water meter for each ingredient you're tempering for things to work correctly.
Let's start by defining a water meter in Fusion. If you're in the Fusion Setup Assistant window, make sure you've selected the "Water Meters" step. Then, click on the "Open Water Meters Window" button. Alternatively, make the Fusion Admin menu bar current and choose "Water Meters" from the Setup menu. This window will display a list of all your water meters, and we'll click on "New" to create a new one.
Give your water meter a unique name, and if you'd like, you can add a note for reference. Once you're done, click "Save." At this point, Fusion knows about this water meter, but it doesn't know how or where it's being used. We need to associate the water meter with a specific ingredient at the correct location.
Now, make sure the Fusion Core menu bar is active and select "New Ingredient Attribute" from the "Attributes" menu. Next, enter the name of ingredient being tempered in the Ingredient field. Check that the location is correct and proceed to change the attribute to "Temper With." Then set the "Change Date" field reflect the to tempering start date. Finally, choose which water meter is being used for this purpose.
If you ever stop using this meter in the future, you'll need to create a new attribute for the date you stopped using it and select the "Don't Temper" option. This tells Fusion that the water meter is no longer associated with that ingredient, and you can then use it for something else if needed.
Click "Save" to continue. You'll also want to record a water meter reading for the start day. In our example, it's today, so go to "New Water Meter Reading" under the "Attributes" menu. Enter the water meter and record the reading (e.g., 545 gallons). If you don't reset the water meter to 0 after each reading, leave that checkbox unchecked. The "Extra Amount" field might not apply to you, but if this were a future reading and you'd sold or moved some of the tempered ingredient to another location, you would enter that amount here. It helps Fusion calculate the tempered water quantity accurately, even though this extra amount wasn't part of any feed loads recorded at that location.
Make sure the reading date and time are correct and save the reading. It's a good practice to record readings consistently, like on the last day of each month. Record them at least monthly (but not more than weekly) depending on how often you're tempering. If you are tempering every day, weekly recordings are fine, but if you temper in larger batches only a few times a month, monthly recordings are more accurate. And remember, if you stop using a water meter, enter a last reading on the same day you disassociate it in Fusion.
Lastly, don't forget to check the "Billing" section of the Preferences window to ensure the way water is handled during billing aligns with your preferences. Fusion can remove the water entirely, leave it in, or separate it out and charge a different amount for it. If you choose to charge differently for the water, create a water meter attribute to set the bill at price and tax rate using the "New Water Meter Attribute" option under the "Attributes" menu.
