Fusion Installer 4.1
Build Date: 2024-05-13
Recent changes by Microsoft and Google have made it difficult to download and install previous versions of Fusion Installer. To overcome this, Fusion Installer 4.1 was completely rewritten to modern standards. It also paves the way for better compatibility with cloud services like OneDrive for future versions of Fusion (i.e. Fusion 4.6 and above). Because this is a completely rewritten application, only the highlights are detailed here.
Changes
- The Fusion Server source was removed. This was a feature that was added many years ago when most customers had extremely slow internet connections.
- The ability to prepare and use a special USB stick for installation was removed. This was also a feature that made sense years ago, but is no longer needed.
- Fusion Installer automatically detects new versions of itself and guides you through upgrading them. As such, it is no longer listed as one of the applications to upgrade.
- The options for Fusion Server were removed as they were no longer relevant.
- There is a new option when installing Fusion Client which replaces the Fix Client Resources advanced utility.
- The option that is available when installing Fusion Truck has been enhanced to replace the need for the Fix Index Files advanced utility.
- The release notes are no longer shown during the installation. These are easily available in more places now, so this was no longer needed.
- When Fusion Installer creates shortcuts on the Windows Desktop, it no longer includes version numbers which should simplify things. The current version is always available within each application as well as from the Properties dialog for the application files themselves.
- The Throughput advanced utility has been removed. It will return when Fusion 4.6 is released.
- In the Install window, both version numbers and build numbers are now shown. This paves the way for multiple builds of the same version to exist which is helpful in some situations.
- On Windows, the location of the Fusion Installer application and of the install files it deals with has changed to the Program Files folder and the ProgramData folder, respectively.
- The structure of the install files themselves has changed drastically. Any old install files already downloaded will not be usable, but Fusion Installer can re-download files back to Fusion 4.4 if necessary.
