Mix Load Window

This window is meant to be used in a feed truck to mix new loads of feed. If you are manually entering feeding for the day in the office, you should use the Manual Feed Entry window instead.

When this window first opens you need to supply some information to Fusion before you can start mixing the load. For example, Fusion needs to know what ration you will be mixing and what size of load you intend to mix. Since Fusion keeps track of everything going on with feeding it is able to provide sensible defaults so that you seldom need to actually change any of this information. Nevertheless, you can change whatever you like.

Ration To Mix

This area is where you set the ration and size of load that you want to mix next. Fusion will automatically choose a ration based on the drive order and how much pens have been fed so far during the day. If you want to change this tap the Ration Name field and choose a different ration from the list. Fusion also automatically sets the target quantity based on the capacity of your truck and how much is left to be fed of the ration on the current pass. You can change this by tapping the Target Quantity field and entering a different amount.

The buttons in this area can be used to have Fusion adjust the ration and quantity for common scenarios. This is what each does:

  • Full Auto. This button will re-run the logic that ran when the window first opened—the ration and quantity will be chosen as explained above. So, if you have have changed this information and want to get back to Fusion's defaults, use this button.
  • Auto Quantity. This button will do the same as above, but only for the quantity. If you have changed the ration from Fusion's default, and then changed the quantity and want Fusion to recalculate the default quantity for this ration you can use this button.
  • Full Load. This button simply figures out what a full load of the chosen ration is and uses that value regardless of how much feed is still needed on the current pass. If Fusion is asking you to only make a partial load to finish off the pass and you have more passes to feed out with this ration, you may want to use this button to force Fusion to make a full load to be more efficient.
  • Total Needed. This button figures out the total quantity of the chosen ration still needed to be fed for the current pass. One case where this might be used is when you are almost done feeding this ration and need just a little more than a full load. If you know your truck can handle a slightly larger sized load than normal, you can use this button to change the quantity to the full amount left. Note that this amount is shown right above the Total Needed button.

Ration Currently On Truck

This area is used to let Fusion know if the truck is empty or if there is some leftover ration from a previous load that you want blended into this load. Fusion attempts to set these values based on the scale weight when the window is opened. If there is less than about 3% (this value can be changed in the Preferences window) of a load on the truck, Fusion will assume it is empty. If more than that, it will assume you are trying to blend a load.

Note that Fusion determines this when this window is opening. If the truck happens to be bouncing at the moment this window is opened, it might assume the wrong weight on the truck and determine the wrong situation. It is important to either open this window when the truck is stable or double-check this area to make sure Fusion set it correctly. If the window was opened during a bounce, you can click the Reevaluate Scale button once the truck scale is stable again and Fusion will redetermine this information. Or, you can change it manually:

  • Truck is empty..... This setting lets Fusion know that the truck is empty. When the OK button is tapped to start mixing the load, Fusion will automatically zero the scale at that moment, so make sure the scale is settled at that moment. If there is a bit of weight difference between the last zero point and the new zero point, Fusion will assume that that little bit of feed needs to be attributed to the last load and will automatically distribute it after this load is completed. If this amount to be distributed is more than 3% (this value can be changed in the Preferences window) of a load, you will be asked if you want to distribute it. You can turn the auto-distribution behavior completely off in the the Preferences window.
  • The following is on the truck and will be blended. The load on the truck will be blended into the new load you are making. You can specify a specific ration and amount if necessary, but these will normally be correct since they are based on the last load made on the truck.

New Load Identifier

Each load is automatically assigned an identifier which is shown wherever loads are listed. You can change this if you want.

Current Pass

It is possible to feed with several passes. All of Fusion's calculations for how much feed needs to be delivered and load sizes are based on the pass currently set. You can change the pass in several places and this is one of them. When you are finished feeding a pass, change it to the next one. Each truck can be on a different pass.

Start Mixing

When you are ready to start mixing the load, click the OK button. Remember that Fusion evaluates the scale at this moment, so you should make sure the scale system is stable. If you click Cancel the load will not be created and the scale will not be zeroed. However, the load identifier will not be reused.

After clicking OK, the ingredients for this load will be listed in the order set up when the ration was created. The middle column shows the target amount of the ingredient and the right one shows the actual amount added so far. If the load is a blended one some of the ingredients will already have some weight showing in the actual column. The first ingredient will be selected.

Each time an ingredient is selected, Fusion will update the large value in the Scale Indicator window to reflect how much more of the ingredient needs to be added to match the target. It does this in such a way where the scale is moving closer to zero as you add ingredient. The idea is to add the ingredient until the scale reads zero. Once you are done adding a sufficient amount of the ingredient, click the Record Weight button. Fusion will record the actual amount added and automatically select the next ingredient (if you have a micro machine and the next ingredient is a micro, it will be skipped in this case). If you add too much of an ingredient (over a certain threshold) the ingredient's row will turn red.

As you add ingredients, the small value in the Scale Indicator window will represent the total load size.

Normally, mixing a load is simply a matter of adding ingredient until the scale is close to zero and hitting Record Weight after each ingredient. When all the ingredients have been added, click the Deliver Load button to save the load and prepare to deliver it to pens.

Undoing a Record Weight

If you accidentally hit Record Weight when the wrong ingredient was selected, click the gear button and choose Undo Last Record Weight. Then select the correct ingredient and click the Record Weight button.

Manually Entering Ingredients Amounts

You may have ingredients such as top dressing and medications that need to be precisely added to a load. Normally these are relatively small amounts that are added by hand and an exact weight is known. And normally the weight is too small for the scale system to register accurately enough. These ingredients can be manually entered.

With the ingredient selected, click the Manual Entry button. The bottom of the window changes and shows a field you can use to enter the exact amount for the ingredient. Please note that Fusion expects that you first physically add the ingredient to the load and then enter the value added here. This is important because of how Fusion adjusts the scale system internally.

You can also add a new ingredient to the load by clicking the Manual Entry button and then clicking the + button and choosing an ingredient. You will be asked to enter a target value and then can enter the actual value in the same way as other manually entered ingredients. Ingredients that are added to the load in this way can also be deleted (assuming a mistake was made) by clicking the - button, but normal ingredients cannot be removed.

When you are finished manually entering an ingredient, select the next ingredient you want to add and the Record Weight button will appear so that you can continue with the load in the normal way. Note that once an ingredient has been manually entered, you can only adjust it manually. That is, the Record Weight button will not be available when that ingredient is selected anymore.

Micro Machine Automation

If Fusion is connected to a micro machine, as soon as you start to mix the load it will look at the ingredients in the ration and the ingredients available to mix on the micro machine. (If you have the Manually Start Communication Each Load setting on--available for most micro machines--Fusion won't do this until you tell it to.) If Fusion finds any matches (by name) it will mark these ingredients as micros. For all machines except Micro Technology machines, Fusion will then request the machine to make a batch with those ingredients and target amounts immediately. For Micro Technologies machines, the batching and dumping happen as one operation, so you will need to tap the status bar to tell it when you are ready for those ingredients. A status bar will appear at the top of the window indicating the progress of the batch and detailing any errors that occur. This bar will be yellow when the micro machine is working, green when it is waiting for you to tell it what to do next, and red if there is an error.

When a micro machine is done mixing a batch, the status bar will indicate this. When you are ready to add the micros to your load, touch the status bar. A menu will appear which gives the option ask the micro machine to dump the load. Micro Technologies machines will already be dumping the ingredients at this point. Always make sure the truck is settled and that any ingredients already added have had their weight recorded. When the dump is finished, Fusion will wait a few seconds for the truck to settle before recording the weight. When it does so it will figure out how much water was added and include that in the load.

If an error occurs at some point, the status bar will explain the error. Usually the error will indicate something that needs to be fixed. For example, a bin may have become empty and just needs to be refilled. If there is a communication error, you may need to move the truck to a better location. In any case, once the problem has been solved, touch the status bar to ask Fusion to continue with the process. In certain cases you may need to cancel and start over.

If you accidentally tap the Record Weight button when a micro ingredient is selected, Fusion will show a message explaining this cannot be done. This helps alleviate accidental changes of a few pounds to micros. If you really need to manually record weight to a micro for some reason, use the Manual Entry button as explained above.

Changing Rations While Mixing

If you start mixing a load and then realize that you are mixing the wrong ration, click the gear button and choose Apply To Different Ration. You can then choose a different ration and Fusion will modify the current ration in the best way possible. If some of the ingredients that already have weight added are not in the new ration, you will be warned and can choose whether to go ahead with the change or not.

Repairing a Ration

If you exceed the threshold with one of the ingredients, you might be able to repair the ration. Click the gear button and choose Repair Ration. Fusion will analyze the load made so far and attempt to increase the target amounts of each ingredient so that the ingredient that had too much added will be just right. You may then need to go back and add a little to the other ingredients. If repairing a ration will end up with a load larger than the truck can handle, you will be warned and given the choice of whether to continue.

Adding a Note to the Load

Click the gear button and choose Add Note. You can then enter a note that will stay with this load. Click OK when you are done entering the note and Fusion will return to the ingredient list.
