Commodity/Ingredient Edit Window

This window is used to define a commodity (also referred to as ingredient). See Core Concepts for more information on commodities and ingredients.

General Information

  • Name. This is the name of the commodity or ingredient as it will be known throughout Fusion.
  • Withdrawal Time. This field is the withdrawal for the ingredient in days. If this ingredient is fed, Fusion will figure out the withdrawal for animals that were in the pen when the feed was fed.
  • This ingredient is water. If this ingredient is water, this field should be turned on. There can only be one ingredient that Fusion knows is water which Fusion can then treat differently because it understands what it is.
  • Track with extra precision. For most ingredients, Fusion tracks changes in inventory to the nearest pound or kilogram. This is usually sufficient. However, if an ingredient is used in very small quantities, such as a micro ingredient, you will need to have Fusion track it to the nearest gram. Turn this field on to get the extra precision.

Thresholds

You can optionally define a minimum and/or maximum threshold value for a couple things below. If you leave a value at zero, Fusion treats it as if that threshold is not defined. But if you enter a non-zero value, Fusion will check against it when someone is entering a value somewhere else in Fusion and not allow you to save it if it is outside the threshold value.

  • Dry Matter Attribute (Minimum/Maximum). These thresholds are for when someone is entering dry matter percentage attributes.
  • Ration Inclusion (Minimum/Maximum). These thresholds are for when someone is adding the ingredient to a ration. In this case, consider these values as dry matter/as fed basis agnostic.

Default Attribute Values

In order to start feeding, Fusion needs to know the dry matter, NEM, and NEG of each ingredient, so we provide a way to enter a default value for each. However, it should actually be recorded as an ingredient attribute and changed there once you start using Fusion.

  • DM. The default dry matter value associated with this ingredient at all locations when a suitable attribute cannot be found.
  • NEM. The default NEM (net energy maintenance) value associated with this ingredient at all locations when a suitable attribute cannot be found.
  • NEG. The default NEG (net energy gain) value associated with this ingredient at all locations when a suitable attribute cannot be found.
When these values change in the future, do not make the changes here! Use the attribute system instead (see Core Concepts).

Location Specific Information

The information in this section defines information about the commodity on a per location basis. Select a location and then change the values for that location as desired.

  • Threshold. This the quantity of the commodity at this location where, if the inventory level goes below it, you want to be warned. It is used by the Inventory Thresholds window.
  • Maximum Capacity. Fusion can let you know how close you are to the maximum capacity of a commodity at a location in the Inventory Thresholds window. If this commodity has a maximum capacity, enter it here. If not, leave this field set to 0.
  • Avg Usage Days. When the Inventory Thresholds window calculates how many days it will be until the inventory level will be below the threshold, it will do this based on previous activity for the number of days in this field. For example, if this field was 7 days for silage, Fusion would look at the silage used in the last 7 days to decide how much was being used per day. It would then apply that calculation to figure out how many days, assuming the same usage pattern, until you hit the threshold. It usually makes sense for this to be a fairly low number (like 7 days) for ingredients that are used regularly and a higher number (like 30 or 60 days) for ingredients that are seldom used.
  • Markup Type. Use this field to define the markup method that Fusion will use when calculating the Bill At price based on the Cost price. Fusion doesn't automatically do this on its own—pricing changes must always have human involvement. However, when using the Bulk Attribute Change window each month, you can ask Fusion to automatically apply a markup based on this setting. The possible values are None (no markup will automatically be applied), Percentage (the markup will be calculated as a percentage of the cost), or Dollar (the markup will be a certain amount of dollars).
  • Markup Amount. If you have defined a markup for this ingredient at this location, you can enter the percentage or dollar markup here

Note

If you would like to enter a note about this commodity, you can do so in this field.

Saving Changes

Click the Save button when you are finished making changes to a commodity. The new information will be available to other Fusion users within about ten seconds or after the next full sync for trucks. Or you can click the Cancel button to have Fusion ignore any changes you just made.

Getting Here

You can open this window by creating or editing a commodity from the Commodity/Ingredient List window.
