Total Feed Dump Report

This window is used to create a very simple report containing some basic details for the day's feeding. It isn't meant to be used long term, but may be helpful as you are transitioning to Fusion. For example, you may need this information to record feeding information from Fusion in another system during the transition.

  • Location. Choose the location you want to report on.
  • Date Range. Enter the date range of feed deliveries you want to look at.
  • Dump To File. Turn this option on if you want Fusion to export the report as a file. You will be asked where the file should be created and Fusion will export the report as a tab-delimited file.
  • Print. Turn this option on if you want Fusion to print the report.
  • Copy To Clipboard. Turn this option on for Fusion to copy the report to the system clipboard. You could then, for example, paste it into a spreadsheet.

When the above settings are correct, click the Dump button to run the report. You can click the Cancel button if you change your mind.

Report Columns

The same columns are used regardless of whether the report is printed, copied, or exported as a file.

  • Date. Shows the date of the feed delivery.
  • Pen. Shows the pen the feed deliveries were for. Each pen that received any feed on a date will be included in the pen.
  • Head Count. Shows the head count in the pen as it was at midnight on that day.
  • Ration. Shows the ration fed to the pen. If a pen was fed multiple rations in a day, the report will include a line for each ration.
  • Target (As Fed). When Fusion is used to deliver a load of feed, there is a place to set the target delivery for each pen. This column simply sums this value for each delivery, so it will only be as representative for the entire day as these values are accurate. (See below if these values are unexpectedly high.)
  • Actual (As Fed). Shows the total feed delivered to the pen on an as fed basis.
  • Target (Dry Matter). The same rule applies here as for the Target (As Fed) column. The only difference is that this is the dry matter value.
  • Actual (Dry Matter). Shows the total feed delivered to the pen on a dry matter basis.
  • Bunk Call Per Head (Dry Matter). Shows the bunk call target that was selected for the pen today, on a per head basis.
  • Bunk Call Per Pen (Dry Matter). Shows the bunk call target that was selected for the pen today, on a per pen basis. This column is useful to compare agains the Actual (Dry Matter) column to see how accurate feeding was done for the day.

Unexpectedly High Target Values

As mentioned above, there is a Target Quantity field in the Bunk Call/Feed Delivery Window which is used when feeding. When a feed delivery is recorded, Fusion records the actual quantity and it also records whatever is in the Target Quantity field. The above report simply sums the target values for the feed delivery records so if the target values in the records are not accurate, then the target values in this report will also not be accurate.

So what might cause the target values to not be correct? To understand that, let's look at how Fusion computes that value during feeding. When the pen is selected before you feed it, Fusion looks at the feeding pass the truck is on to figure out what percentage of feed should have been feed to that point in the day. It also looks to see how much feed has already been delivered to the pen. From there is figures out how much still needs to be fed for this pass and sets that to be the target quantity. If the target quantity is higher than what is left in the load, Fusion will adjust the target down to the current load size since it doesn't make sense to have a target greater than what is possible to drop off.

In normal feeding scenarios Fusion will calculate the target correctly. Here are some common scenarios where the target will be "incorrect":

  • For some reason the driver only wants to drop off part of the target amount, but they don't manually adjust the target before feeding.
  • The driver does manually adjust the target quantity, but does so incorrectly.
  • The driver is feeding with multiple drops, but Fusion does not have multiple feeding passes set up. In that case, the first drops will assume 100% feed for the target, but the driver will only be dropping of a portion of that.
Note that these can have a cumulative affect. If the driver only drops off 50% of the target, Fusion will calculate a higher target the next time around to make up for what wasn't fed. Adding up the target quantities later on will, of course, be much higher than it would have been if the driver had appropriately adjusted the target before feeding.

If you are experiencing this issue we recommend making sure you've set Fusion up with feeding passes that match how you actually feed and that the truck drivers be trained to ensure the Target Quantity field is set to what they actually plan to drop off to the pen before they deliver the feed.

Most of the time these aren't important issues. If you are simply trying to see if feeding was accurate for the day, compare the Actual (Dry Matter) column with the Bunk Call Per Pen (Dry Matter) column.
