Bulk Edit Window

This window makes is easy to apply the same changes to multiple animals very quickly. Note that the Animal Grid Edit window is usually better suited for quickly making changes for many animals and allows you to edit more fields than this window does. However, the Bulk Edit window is useful because it focuses on fields that sometimes need to be changed with more intelligence than just copying the same value. For example, it can be used to automatically prepend a string of characters to a custom ID or change the home pen of many animals to their lot's home pen, even if you have selected animals from different lots.

Changing Fields

To change a field, make sure the checkbox next to it is checked. You can change more than one field at a time.

Following is an explanation about how each field can be changed:

  • Sex. You can change the sex to the normal values (Male or Female) or set the sex to be blank. But if you choose <lot default>, Fusion will look up the current lot of each animal and change the animal's sex to whatever the lot is (if the lot is set to Mixed, the animal's sex will become blank).
  • Breed/Color/Cattle Type. Similarly, for breed, color, and cattle type you can change to nothing or a specific one, but you can also choose the lot's default which will change each animal's breed, color, or cattle type to that of its lot.
  • Home/Current Pen. Again, for home and current pen you can change to no pen or a specific pen at the animal's current location. The other option is <lot's principle pen>. In this case, Fusion will figure out which pen the animal's current lot is in. If it is spread out over multiple pens, it chooses the principle one based on count and weight. It will then change the animal's pen to be the same. This is particularly helpful if animals haven't been linked very much in the past. If most of your lots are in one pen you can quickly let Fusion know what pen the animals are in as a starting point for better linking.

Note that this just changes the value in the pen field for the animal. It does not make an actual move event that affects numbers in pens and lots.

  • Treat Status. If you run into a situation where Fusion thinks animals are in the middle of a treatment protocol but you don't want them to be, you can use this option to force them out of treatment. Fusion will terminate the treatment as of the moment you make the changes.
  • Status. When an animal is created its status become current. Once an animal is linked to an out cohort, the status is set to non-current. And when a lot is closed out, any animals that are currently associated with the lot that still have a current status are changed to non-current. Normally this process works correctly, but you can manually change an animal's status if necessary. This should only rarely be used as it can have side affects that need to be taken into account.
  • RFID/Custom IDs. There are three options when editing these fields. The first, Change to will just make it so every selected animal will have the same value (whatever you enter) and this can easily be done with the Grid Edit window. However, the other two options are more interesting. Prepend with will add the text you type in in front of every animal's ID. For example, if you had some animals that had RFID tags that had been manually entered with only the last nine digits, you could use this to prepend the "124000" to all the numbers. Similarly, Append with adds the text you enter to the end of every ID.
  • Source. You can choose a contact to be the source for each animal.
  • Note. This is helpful to quickly add the same note to every animal. If you choose Append To Animal's Note it will add the note you enter to whatever each animal already has in the note field. If you choose Replacing the animal's note field will first be deleted and then whatever you enter will become the new note.
  • Location and Lot. There are three options when changing an animal's lot:
    • Move All History To New Lot. This will make it so the animal has always belonged to the new lot starting with the animal's in date. If the animal belonged to multiple lots before, these associations will be deleted and all history will be moved to the new lot. This affects the billing of the old lot(s) and the new lot.
    • Move Current History To New Lot. If the animal has only ever belonged to one lot (or no lot at all), this is basically the same as the first option. But if the animal has belonged to multiple lots, this will figure out the animal's current lot and transfer just that part of the history to the new lot. This affects the history and billing of the current lot and the new lot (which then becomes the current lot).
    • Move Animal To Lot On Date. This will add a new lot to the animal's lot history starting on the specified date. Typically this will add a new current lot for an animal and ensure that all history and billing from that date forward are associated with the new current lot instead of the old current lot. But it is possible to choose a date that would be before the current lot, so it will change history and billing further in the past. However, if you choose a date that is before any of the animal's in date or a date in the future, you will not be allowed to make the changes. Also, if you end up choosing a date that is the same as another lot for this animal, the lot will just be replaced with the new lot on that date.

Please make sure that the lot (and date, if applicable) make sense for all the animals you have selected. Fusion doesn't try to stop you from associating animals with lots where it may not make sense.

Make sure you tab out of the location and lot fields before clicking Make Changes or Fusion may assign a blank location or lot to the animal!

Saving Changes

After clicking the Make Changes button, Fusion will cycle through the selected animals applying the changes and making any necessary related changes. This process cannot be undone.

If any changes have been made that would result in a lot's billing changing, the lot will not be updated until the closeout information is regenerated either manually or automatically at midnight.
