Many feedlots think of their bunk calls in terms of total quantity of feed for each pen. The problem with this is that the bunk call value must then be adjusted every time cattle or added or removed from the pen. An employee who removes a dead, for example, must remember to let the person feeding know they must adjust the bunk call for the pen. The person feeding then needs to calculate a new bunk call value. Mistakes are easily made due to poor communication or math skills, possibly resulting in cattle that are over or under fed.
